Lessons I Have Learned from Nina Jacobs, A Holocaust Survivor

The Opportunity

In December 2024, I wrote in a past blog post about an exciting yet nerve-wracking experience I was beginning in 2025. I did not know it at the time, but December 2024 would be the last time I would experience a “before Nina” moment. Sometimes, people are so impactful that they create a “before” and an “after”. In my past blog post, I imagined what the “after” moments would look like and how the Stories That Live fellowship would change me. Now, I am firmly in the “after Nina”, and I can now attest to the fact that this fellowship and Nina have radically changed me. As a part of my fellowship, I wrote about all the lessons that I learned from Nina Jacobs, and I want to share it here with you all as well because I think that this is a powerful piece that needs to be read (and I’m not just saying this as the author). We live in a time where it can be so easy to be disengaged from each other, disengaged from the news, and disengaged from our history. Nina has reengaged me, and my hope with this piece is to reengage you. I hope that it inspires you to create the change you want to see in the world.
